New updates have been issued from the Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division to both amend and clarify previously issued guidance. Please visit the state's marijuana enforcement webpages for details.

The Aurora Marijuana Enforcement Division (AMED) is temporarily suspending field operations, inspections and fingerprinting services to licensed marijuana businesses.

In an effort to limit physical contact and exposure between staff and our licensees, AMED is modifying our operations until further notice, as follows:

• Suspending all in-person inspections from all departments.  Virtual inspections will be performed by an AMED inspector until further notice. 

• No fingerprints will be taken during this time. If you have a new employee, please email a clear copy of both the applicant’s driver’s license and state identification badge to marijuana@auroragov.org AND call Lori Lukone at 303.739.7833.  Background checks will be performed so that employees can be hired, and business operations can continue. However, once it becomes safe again, these people will have to come in and have their prints taken. 

• If you have other state badged employees that work at another location that you own, in another jurisdiction, you can allow them to work in the Aurora stores without having the print/background check performed until Aug. 31, 2020.  Please keep a list of names of those employees available for review by AMED.

• Please send all renewals that are due through email to marijuana@auroragov.org. Payment can be made online at http://aurora4biz.org/AnyPayment. You must have your invoice that was sent via email with the renewal packet to insure proper receipt to your account. 

• AMED staff will continue to be available by phone and email to assist with licensing.

• Communication with AMED is extremely important during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Let us know how we can be of assistance. We will continue to update as needed.

The Aurora Marijuana Enforcement Division (AMED) is the local licensing authority responsible for overseeing the retail marijuana and hemp industries in the city of Aurora. AMED comprises members of several city departments with expertise in the areas of city government most relevant to the industry, including law enforcement, tax compliance, planning and zoning, building regulations and neighborhood services.

Regulated marijuana businesses include all regulated marijuana license types except for medical marijuana centers, which are not permitted to operate within the city. The difference between marijuana and hemp is the THC content. The federal definition of hemp is anything with less than a 0.3% delta -9 tetrahydrocannabinol concentration, which is the primary intoxicating component of marijuana.
